Thank You, John Hughes
I hated being a teenager.
(I realize I am not the first person to have that experience, but it was my experience, and this is my blog, so just deal with it. This is not about you - it is about me.)
I did not fit in. I was gangly and different parts of my body were growing at different speeds. I had hair that looked like I used roll-on hairspray. My head was filled with all these ideas and thoughts and dreams. No one wanted to hear them.
When I saw Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, I wanted to believe I was Ferris, but in reality, I knew I was Cameron. John Hughes sorta told me that it was OK to be Cameron. And by embracing my inner Cameron-edness, I learned how to be me. And that me was ok, and that being the goofy friend who is always there is not just OK, but pretty damned awesome.
Thank you, John Hughes, for giving me a way out.
